CHU Swee Yeok
Chief Executive Officer & President

Ms Chu joined EDB Investments Pte Ltd (EDBI) as its Chief Executive Officer in late 2008, bringing with her over 20 years of track record and extensive experience in equity investments of start-up to growth and late-stage ventures, strategic planning, business and technology development..

Prior to EDBI, Ms Chu was the CEO of Bio*One Capital Pte Ltd since 2004. Under her leadership, Bio*One became a globally recognised and reputable investment fund manager with a portfolio of over 50 therapeutics, medical technology and services companies worldwide and in Singapore.

Previously Ms Chu held major stints at the Singapore Economic Development Board (SEDB) and the Agency for Science & Technology Research where she played a pioneering role in developing and implementing key industry and R&D strategies leading to the growth of the biomedical sector as a major pillar of Singapore's economy today. At SEDB she was instrumental in establishing several venture funds since 1990 and providing oversight to their management. Ms Chu was also responsible for many successful negotiations with global MNCs relating to their R&D, manufacturing and headquarters activities in Singapore.

Besides the board of EDBI, Ms Chu also serves on the boards of Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases (NITD), Merlion Pharmaceuticals Pte Ltd, Singapore-Suzhou Township Development Pte Ltd, and Alexandra Health Endowment Fund.

Laura CHANG
Deputy Director, Legal

Laura has over ten years of experience as lawyer and corporate trust banker. She was an in-house legal counsel in a German financial institution responsible for corporate banking portfolio of Singapore branch, and a corporate trust banker in an US financial institution where she was involved with a significant portfolio of corporate trust and agency services in the Asia Pacific region.

CHOO Heng Tong
Senior Vice President, Investments

Heng Tong holds dual appointments as Senior Vice President (Investments) at Bio*One Capital and EDB Investments (EDBI), responsible for EDBI’s growth capital for local companies. He has over 12 years of experience in investments and industry development; including M&As, strategic planning, business development, and international growth into new markets, involving both multi-nationals and start-up organizations. He was previously with Singapore Economic Development Board where he worked with various industries such as biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and engineering companies to grow their business and operations in Asia. Heng Tong serves on the board of Amaranth Medical Pte Ltd, Inviragen Inc, Maccine Pte Ltd, S*Bio Pte Ltd and TriReme Medical Inc.


CHUA Boon Ping
Senior Vice President, Investments

Boon Ping brings with him more than 10 years of VC and M&A experience in Technology, Media and Telecommunications sector. He has investment experience in both developed markets such as USA and Europe as well as emerging ones like China and Vietnam. He was also actively involved in the business development and strategic planning of portfolio companies. Boon Ping worked for MediaCorp and ST Electronics where he was responsible for sourcing and evaluating new investment opportunities. Currently, he serves on the boards of Cloudpic Global and Smaato.

Sarah HO
Senior Director, Finance

Sarah has over 18 years of experience in finance, accounting and corporate tax planning. She gained her finance and accounting background from one of the largest public accounting firms and senior finance positions in publicly listed companies. Her experience included a successful bonus issue, private placement, feasibility studies of new joint ventures and treasury function. Currently, Sarah serves on the divestment committee and the board of various funds under EDBI’s management in addition to her finance role.

Eugene KHOO
Executive Vice President, Corporate Finance & Planning

Eugene has over twenty years of experience in investment, business development, strategic planning and market studies. Eugene was Vice President at OCBC Capital Management, the venture capital arm of Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation. He has also held various positions at SISIR International Pte Ltd, the investment arm of a Singapore statutory board, where he provided business development and other support.

LEE Li Ting
Deputy Director, Finance

Li Ting has over fifteen years of experience in finance and accounting. Prior to joining EDBI, she held finance positions in public listed company and US MNCs where she managed a team of finance staff. Her experiences include internal audit of companies in China, merger and acquisition, and treasury functions.

Jeremy LOH
Vice President, Investments

Jeremy leads EDBI's US investment activities in internet and digital media, biomedical sciences and clean technology out of the EDBI office in Redwood City, California. Prior to  joining EDBI, he spearheaded an engineering team developing autonomous machines in a robotic start-up (subsequently acquired) and held multiple patents for diagnostic and bio-artificial organ applications. Jeremy received his mechanical and bio-engineering training from A*STAR, Nanyang Technological University, University of Southampton and Imperial College London and currently serves on the boards of Sotera Wireless and Amaranth Medical.

Timothy LOW
Senior Director, Legal & Corporate Affairs

Timothy has over fifteen years of experience in corporate, M&A, and technology law covering industries such as information technology, internet businesses, media, biomedical sciences, and cleantech.  He heads EDBI’s Department of Legal & Corporate Affairs covering all legal matters and business advisement for global investments, M&As and divestments.  Timothy also oversees EDBI’s corporate governance, compliance, branding and corporate communications, and IT.

Prior to joining EDBI, he headed the legal departments at SingTel’s Info-communications Technology Services business NCS, and SingTel’s joint venture in Digital Internet Media, Lycos Asia.  Timothy was instrumental in SingTel’s takeover, delisting and merger of Singapore Computer Systems with NCS to create Singapore’s largest Info-communications Technology Services company.  Before going in-house, he practised as an Advocate & Solicitor in Singapore and was called to the English Bar in 1996.

POON Thong Yuen
Vice President, Investments

Thong Yuen spent 3 years in Boston leading EDBI’s biomedical sciences, and later internet & digital media and clean technology investment activities covering the East Coast of US. Prior to that he was with the biomedical investment team. He has more than 8 years of investments experience. Thong Yuen earned his doctorate in Medicinal Chemistry and honours degree in Pharmacy from the National University of Singapore and currently serves on the boards of Amaranth Medical, Forma Therapeutics and Inviragen.

 

TAM Hock Chuan
Senior Vice President, Investments

Hock Chuan has over twenty years of investment experience in private equity and venture capital. He started his career in broadcasting where he was involved in developing and investing in new businesses. He had earlier held investments roles in Temasek Holdings, Vertex Venture Management and Accuron Technologies, a precision engineering company. In 2007, Hock Chuan joined the technology commercialisation arm of A*STAR - Exploit Technologies - to help incubate and spin-off companies founded on A*STAR intellectual properties. Prior to joining EDBI, he was with World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC), focusing on ICT investments in East Asia Pacific.

Belinda YEOH
Deputy Director, HR

Belinda  brings with her extensive experience in  Human Resources (HR) with focus on HR Business Partnering, Staff Attraction and Retention, Talent Management, as well as  Compensation and Benefits, with both regional and global coverage. Prior to EDBI, Belinda was the Vice President of HR in a European global bank. Besides banking, she had other HR management experience in a government linked company and multi-national high tech manufacturing firm where she managed a team of HR staff. Belinda is a Business graduate from National University of Singapore.
